What is specialized care? And why does it matter?
Not all therapists are trained equally—especially when it comes to treating OCD, compulsive disorders, and anxiety. These conditions require more than just general talk therapy or simple coping strategies. They demand an approach grounded in evidence-based modalities like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and a clinician who has invested years in learning, practicing, and refining their skills within this niche.
As a specialized clinician, I’ve pursued advanced training through institutions dedicated to anxiety and OCD treatment. And I encourage anyone seeking care for OCD & anxiety to ask the following important questions:
What evidence-based approach do you use?
At what length have you trained and focused in treating OCD and anxiety?
What institutions specific to these disorders and evidenced based care have you trained under?
What percentage of your caseload is focused primarily on the treatment of anxiety and compulsive disorders?
Asking these questions can be the difference between feeling stuck—and finally finding a path forward.
My commitment to specialized training and approaches:
My approach: I am trained in the effective use of Exposure Response Prevention, known as the golden standard of care for any compulsive or anxiety disorder. I have also been trained in subcategories of ERP such as how to flex and develop ERP for pediatric patients, and how to use a mindfulness based approach & self compassion based approach to exposure.
Speciality Focus: I have been treating compulsive and anxiety disorders solely for just under 5 years. For the first 1.5 years I underwent rigorous training via OCD specific clinical program. At year 2, I began training, advising and overseeing the training of newcomers to the niche. Since starting my practice in 2023, I have continued this as my sole clinical focus.
Caseload: 90% of the individuals I treat are being treated for various anxiety disorders and compulsive disorders. The additional 10% of my caseload are individuals who have achieved and maintain recovery from such disorders and have moved on to doing maintenance care.
